Alexej is inspired by the captivating series of paintings by Alexej Von Jawlensky's (1864-1941) “Abstrakter Kopf” (1918-1935). Gabriele and Werner Merzbacher Collection, on permanent load at the Kunsthaus Zurich. Among the many art styles Jawlensky explored during his active working years, Cubism is one he particularly took interest in. His most noticeable ode to this unique technique is his “Abstrakte Köpfe” series; he painted abstract faces that combined horizontal and vertical lines and brightly painted blocks of color. Jawlensky drew inspiration from Indian yogis, allowing him to abandon the sense of individualism and focus on the basic elements.
The new collaboration between Kunsthaus Zurich and ZigZagZurich is a tribute to the influence Kunsthaus Zürich has had on the art scene in Switzerland and around the world. From its humble beginnings in 1787, when a group of artists and art lovers met for friendly discussions and mutual encouragement, Kunsthaus Zürich has gained international recognition since the early 20th century thanks to a combination of permanent exhibitions and a significant art collection. These stunning wool blankets are inspired by three renowned paintings by Wassily Kandinsky, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Alexej von Jawlensky found in the Kunsthaus collection and the Gabriele and Werner Merzbacher collection.The limited edition blankets will be displayed and available for purchase at the Kunsthaus Zürich Museum and the ZigZagZurich Showroom.
